Making Tax Digital
Norton Bridges - CIS Accountants
From April 2026, HMRC is requiring self-employed individuals and landlords to move to Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax. This means more frequent reporting, digital record keeping, and new submission deadlines throughout the year.
At Norton Bridges, we’re already set up for MTD. We’ll manage the transition on your behalf, keep you compliant, and make sure the change is as straightforward as possible.
Who we can help
MTD for Income Tax applies to you if you’re self-employed, a landlord, or both and your qualifying income exceeds the threshold for your tax year. We work with clients across all of these situations.
Self-employed
Sole traders
Freelancers, contractors, and anyone running their own business outside of PAYE.
Property income
Landlords
Individuals receiving rental income from residential or commercial property.
Both
Mixed income
Self-employed individuals who also receive property income – both are counted together.
MTD thresholds are based on qualifying income from self-employment and property only – PAYE employment, dividends, and pensions don’t count. Not sure if it applies to you? Read our guide for a full breakdown.
What we do for you
MTD increases the amount of reporting required throughout the year. We handle all of that on your behalf, so you don’t have to worry about software, deadlines, or compliance.
- MTD-compatible software, included. We use compliant software in-house to manage your submissions – you don’t need to purchase anything.
- Quarterly submissions handled. We’ll prepare and submit your quarterly income and expense summaries to HMRC within the required deadlines.
- Year-end final declaration. We’ll complete your annual final declaration, replacing the current Self-Assessment return process.
- Ongoing support and guidance. We’ll keep you informed of any changes and be on hand to answer questions throughout the year.
- Clear fee structure. MTD involves more work than a single annual return. We’ll discuss any fee changes with you individually, clearly and in advance.
